Odoo PoS: Pay quickly with PayTec and braintec

The flexible payment terminals from PayTec make the checkout process efficient and comfortable for Swiss companies and their customers. The module from braintec bridges the gap between the terminal, cash register system, and accounting.

“The sales staff initiates the payment either directly in the Odoo cash register, via tablet or smartphone, optionally supported by a wireless Bluetooth scanner,” explains Matt Fasola, Senior Project Manager at braintec. “The exact amount appears immediately on the terminal. The payment is confirmed by customers contactlessly, via chip card, magnetic stripe, or Twint, and is completed in a few seconds.”

In the background, the transaction data flows directly back into the Odoo ERP, and the system automatically generates a document with all relevant details, including a QR code for accessing the invoice. The manual entry of the amount at the terminal is no longer necessary. This helps to avoid input errors and discrepancies between the payment flow and ERP data. 

Technical Highlights: Simple, local installation without IoT box

“Many retailers using Odoo are hesitant to switch to new hardware due to the IT effort,” says Matt Fasola. This is exactly where braintec's new payment module comes in: “Our solution connects the terminals directly within the in-house network via Secure WebServices,” explains Matt. In this way, the devices communicate directly with each other and do not take a detour through an online web service. This allows Odoo PoS to continue operating even during a temporary internet outage. This architecture is ideal for stable cash register operations and does not require an IoT box.

Rollout with the joint customer Migros

The solution from braintec and PayTec is already being tested at the M-Print-Shop of the Swiss retail giant Migros. Gradually, all M-Print-Shop branches and the Odoo cash registers in the Westside shopping and experience center in Bern will be switched to the new payment system. Vinarte, a subsidiary of the Migros Ticino cooperative, will also use the integrated cash register solution from PayTec and braintec as part of the nationwide transition to PayTec terminals.
